Toned Down the Layout

Website Design

Website Design

I liked the Skinpress Layout I was using up until the point that I realized that the CSS images were causing long load times, and cluttering up the feel of the site.  So I decided to find a similar theme that holds some of the characteristics of the previous theme’s look and feel.

This new theme has a few wrinkles that I need to sort out, but I feel like it is a step in the right direction.

I have just installed a plug-in called Twitter Tools.  Among other things, this plug-in will allow me to post a daily digest of my tweets, and is the same set of tools I am using for tweets.danielvining.com.  In addition to the Twitter plug-in, I have also installed a photo gallery plug-in that will allow me to self host all my photos on this website.  I will also be working on my comments section, as well as updating all the various pages throughout the site.

If you have an idea for my site, shoot me a line or two.  You can email, dan@danielvining.com, or tweet me @danielvining.

CoverCast: Rascal Flatts "What hurts the most" by Drew Davis

CoverCast is a project I am working on in my spare time that blends my love of music with social networking, netcasting, and blogging.  Here is a taste of the type of videos you will find when CoverCast.com rolls out in the near future.  Comments and discussion are very welcome.  Enjoy!

Schmownce

Do you remember Pownce?  It was a social networking micro blogging site similar to Twitter, but more like Twitter on steriods.  It was a start-up of Kevin Rose, creator of Digg, and in my opinion, was pretty cool.  Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.  After only about a year of existance, the site was bought by a company called SixApart, they are the people behind VOX, Movable Type and Type Pad.  Once bought by them, we lost the twitter that would let you post videos, music and more.

At I thought it was gone.  Turns out a group of people, fans of Pownce, created a replica site with all of the same features and named it Schmownce.  I just created an account, and am still feeling my way through things, but thought I would throw up this post to hopefully entice a few more people to sign up.  I will meander around the site for a while to see if it will catch on with me.

In the process of finding out about Schmownce, I also took the time to start up a VOX account to at least reserve my name for later use.  You can check out nothing at danielvining.vox.com

Installed Kodak ESP 3 today

I installed a new printer on my Macbook today. It is a Kodak ESP 3 All-in-One. Seems like a nice, get the job done printer. I will be scanning old family photos and printing new digital prints with it in the coming weeks. Maybe a review is in order.

This new installation is courtesy of my Mom. She desperately needed a new printer to replace the craptastic one she is currently using. It is an HP (the model name eludes me) and is a piece of junk. So we got the Kodak. I already had my own HP printer that works great. Mom decided that she wanted mine, so I will be installing that one on her PC in the next day or so. As a result, I get the Kodak. Works for me so long as the printer does its job.
I don’t do a ton of printing these days. Anything too fancy I take to the photo lab or print store. Mostly, I print webpages, resumes, emails, and ToS agreements. My family photos project should run the gambit of the capabilities of this new printer, and I look forward to shorting through the options on both the hardware and software.

Trying out Ping.fm again. I feel like I have been neglecting some of my accounts, maybe this will help a little bit.

Today I spent a good deal of time catching up with some dear friends from my past on Facebook. It was a good feeling to say hello to some people that I haven’t talked to in a long time. I also spent some time editing my Facebook account. I also worked on my Linked In online resume, and my paper resume. Not bad for a Friday.
