Calm, Wild, Tech: Local Racing Summed Up On Night 1
UPDATE: PixelatedSPEED has learned that the top three finishers in the Pro Truck feature have been Disqualified. This advances fourth place Jarrett Parker up to the win after a very long night in the tech shed. We have also learned that Michael Moody has been disqualified from the Pure Stock feature, advancing Jerry Goff into the win. PixelatedSPEED will follow up with the details of the violations by those disqualified and provide further updates in the morning.
PENSACOLA, Florida (December 6, 2019) — While still unofficial at the time of posting due to a lengthy inspection and possible protests following the checkered flag, it was Cody Haskins who dominated the 50 lap bout in the Pro Trucks on Thursday night. Haskins, who grabbed the pole, went on to lead every single one of the 50 laps this evening.
It was an uneventful feature for the Pro Trucks. There were no slow downs for a caution period and there wasn’t any major contact anywhere around the half mile. It was a quick, smooth race.
Young gun Grant Thompson finished runner up, almost eight seconds behind Haskins. Donnie Hamrac, Jarrett Parker, and Kody Brusso rounded out the top five finishers for the evening.
The Sportsmen where next to hit the track. It was 5 Flags Speedway veteran BJ Leytham who would head to victory lane, but it wasn’t an easy task for the former Pure Stock champion.
Leytham started on the second row and watched as Chad Robinson and Jason Huffmaster fought for the lead. The two made contact which caused a chain reaction crash and resulted with Robinson heading pit side for a damage check.
Leytham was able to then work around Huffmaster. After surviving several restarts holding off Huffmaster and a late charge from Robinson Leytham finally saw the checkered flag and grabbed another 5 Flags feature win.
Chad Robinson and Jason Huffmaster rounded out the podium with Tommie Blocker and Jim Pokrant finishing out the top five.
You could call Mike Moody “Seven Time” now as he picked up his seventh victory at 5 Flags Speedway tonight, although this one may the biggest.
Moody didn’t have it easy in the Pure Stock main event. After starting a couple rows into the starting he quickly worked his way to second. When the new track record holder Robert Barber got together it was all Moody needed to find himself in victory lane at the Snowball Derby.
Jerry Goff made a last ditch effort to pull off the win but couldn’t execute in the closing laps. Dylan Courtney finished out the podium while Robert Balkum and Thomas Norman came home fourth and fifth respectively.
Action resumes tomorrow morning with practice for Super Late Models and Pro Late Models as well as the Modifieds of Mayhem who will have their championship race tomorrow night right after qualifying for the Snowball Derby.
