Junior Johnson – Men Behind the Wrenches | Speed Historian
The life and accomplishments of Junior Johnson, “The Last American Hero” and one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers and owners. Johnson won 50 races in what is now the NASCAR Cup Series and was a six-time championship car owner with Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip.
Johnson, a member of the first class inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010, passed away at the age of 88 on December 20, 2019.
Men Behind the Wrenches was a TV show on the SPEED Channel in the early 2000s that featured the many mechanics, crew chiefs, and car owners that made NASCAR’s early history.
The Speed Historian is a project presented by PixelatedSPEED in an effort to preserve the history of, and educate about, the sport of auto racing.
