Stout Field to Run 56th Alabama 200 “Hunt for the Bear” on March 7th

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (March 4, 2020) — Last season, Montgomery Motor Speedway promoter Stan Narrison took a gamble; moving the traditional fall date of the infamous Alabama 200 “Hunt for the Bear ”, to a spring, season opening affair for the Show Me the Money Pro Late Model Series.

That gamble paid off as good weather and a healthy crowd blessed the hallowed grounds in southeast Montgomery. A field of 26 cars took the green and 12 finished. Among them, a race long battle for the lead unfolded; first between Alabama’s Augie Grill and Georgia’s Bubba Pollard then late between Grill and defending race champion Casey Roderick.

In the end, Grill was the victor, securing a record-extending fifth Alabama 200 win.

For 2020, the event returns to its now much anticipated March date for yet another contest among some of Pro Late Model racing’s greatest.

Narrison was a guest on Speed51.com’s ‘The Bullring’ this week, where he spoke in advance of this weekend’s race.

“A couple years ago I moved it to a Pro Late Model race because that’s really what our mainstay is here at Montgomery. We have the Show Me the Money Series and to have these Pro Late Model guys running a 200-lap race with controlled cautions, it puts them into a different game plan there,” he said. “Seeing the entries, I think we’re sitting on 22 or 23, there were probably seven or eight cars here yesterday that haven’t pre-registered. I’m expecting a monstrous field.”

Augie Grill is set to return to defend the Show Me the Money Series Championship, and add a sixth “Hunt for the Bear” trophy to his mantle. While Grill is the favorite going into this year’s race, he’ll have plenty of competition to contend with.

Ceterville, Tennessee’s Willie Allen has entered and leads a contingent of Volunteer State drivers including two Hunters… Hunter Boyd and Hunter Wright, Chase Johnson, and Gage Rogers.

“Them Georgia Boyz” are going to be in full force once again this year as Southern Super Series race winner Kyle Plott, 2019 Snowball Derby runner-up Jake Garcia, Jordan McCallum, Rafe Slate, and Ryan Herbert all look to take their shot at Grill.

This race would not be the famed Alabama 200 without an army of Alabama drivers. In addition to Grill, notable standouts from the “Heart of Dixie” include 3-time Show Me the Money Series Champion John Bolen, NASCAR Drive for Diversity participant and 2019 Montgomery Motor Speedway Late Model Sportsman Champion Perry Patino, and Huntsville Speedway winner and go-karting hotshoe, Jolynn Wilkinson.

On Saturday, March 7th, these drivers… and more that have yet to enter, will converge on the high-banked half-mile oval on Booth Road for the 56th running of this 200 lap contest, which dates back to 1960.

Tickets for the Alabama 200 are $20 for Adults, $15 for Seniors and Military, and $5 for Kids 6-12 (5 and under are free).

The grandstands open at 4 PM CST, and parking is free.

Infield passes are $30, and infield parking cost only $10.
