Racecast Info & Entry List: Hocevar in for Vandoorn in 54th Red Bud 400 at Anderson
ANDERSON, Indiana (July 12, 2020) — For the 54th time, the prestigious Red Bud 400 is set to roll at the famed quarter mile on Monday, July 13, 2020 with fans in the stands and eyeballs on screens via pay-per-view. This will mark the fifth race of the season for the ARCA/CRA Super Series. Here is a look at some of the folks racing, a glimpse at the season, and info on how to watch.
Johnny VanDoorn won in 2019 after leading 247 of the 400 laps, scoring his third Red Bud victory. With the win, VanDoorn joined Bob Senneker and Scott Hansen as three time winners, and is now only one win away from tying Mark Martin’s record of four.
VanDoorn will not be racing in this year’s Red Bud. Following the recent birth of daughter Alison Scott, VanDoorn is taking some paternity time to be with his newborn and wife, as both are doing very well.
In place of VanDoorn behind the wheel of last year’s winning number 71 Super Late Model is up and coming driver Carson Hocevar, who was previously entered in his family-owned machine prior to filling in for VanDoorn. Hocevar won at Lebanon Speedway in May, the Show Me State Showdown 125.
“I’m stoked and thankful to get to run the Redbud 400 for the first time, and even more excited for the opportunity to jump in the #71 this weekend for TK Racing,” stated Carson Hocevar. “With Johnny winning last year and our successful test, I’m very confident that we can have a shot to win towards the end of the long 400 laps on Monday night.”
Much like every other series across the nation, the ARCA/CRA Super Series has faced a multitude of scheduling issues attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Red Bud 400 was supposed to be round number eight, but after the suspension or cancelation of events at Nashville, Berlin and Flat Rock Speedways, Anderson will mark round number five of the 2020 season, and fourth points paying event as Speedfest in Cordele was a non-points race
After four points events, Josh Brock leads the standings after two solid top ten finishes leading into this Monday’s event. Hot on his heels are Kyle Crump, 25 points behind, and Michael Simko, who is 14 points behind Crump.
The field is littered with series champions Brock, Greg Van Alst, Cody Coughlin and Logan Ruyon all entered.
In addition to the regular cast of characters, a pair of 51s join the field in Sammy Smith and Stephen Nasse.
Nasse comes to Anderson fresh off a win in Pensacola with the Southern Super Series, and a seventh at the Slinger Nationals in Wisconsin.
Smith, driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports, won during the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida back in February.
Speaking of Florida, hotshoe 2011 winner Steve Dorer makes the trip, joining 2016 winner Dalton Armstrong as the only former Red Bud winners entered in this year’s field.
For those attending this year’s race, pits open on Monday at 11am. Practice will go from 1:30pm to 3:15pm. Rowdy Manufacturing Qualifying will begin at 4:45pm. There will be an autograph session with all the events drivers starting at 6pm. The 54th Annual Redbud 400 Presented by Mitch Smith Auto Service and Perfecto will go green at 7:30pm.
For those watching from afar, Speed51.com will provide live pay-per-view coverage. Your virtual ticket costs $20.00. Click here for the broadcast details and purchase options.
