52nd Snowball Derby Washed Out on Sunday and Moved to Monday
PENSACOLA, Florida (December 8, 2019) — After fighting mother nature all day in an effort to get the cars on track, the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby has been postponed to Monday, December 9, 2019.
A light mist began to fall on Five Flags Speedway around mid-day. From then on, a repeating cycle of misting, sprinkles and a shower plagued the efforts by track officials as they kept track drying efforts ongoing up until about 5 PM, the point at which the decision was made to call it a day, and try again on Monday.
“We want to be a good neighbor,” said Five Flags Speedway owner Tim Bryant. “We know a lot of these fans have to be at work on Monday morning, so when the last line of rain came we made the call because it’d take too long to prepare the track.”
It’s the second straight year that weather has been a factor in the schedule. Last year, the 20th Annual Snowflake 100 was postponed to the following Saturday.
In 2016, weather pushed the 49th Snowball Derby to the following Tuesday.
Here is the revised schedule for Monday, December 9, 2019:
10:00 AM – Pit Gates Open
01:00 PM – Grandstands Open
03:00 PM – Speed 51 Broadcast begins with resumption of pre-race festivities
04:00 PM – 52nd Annual Snowball Derby presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club
Times are in Central.
