PixelatedRESULTS: Fetcho Picks up Baby Rattler in Dominant Fashion
OPP, Alabama (March 12, 2022) – Dylan Fetcho won Saturday’s Grasshopper Mowers Baby Rattler 125 at South Alabama Speedway after starting from the outside pole. While Fetcho said he had to work on the restarts to secure the lead, he and his car were on a rail, besting second place Casey Rodderick by over a second.
“We started off tight, and it got tighter and tighter so we have to figure that out,” said Fetcho. “Casey was coming and we saved enough at the end to hold him off. The guys at Hamke build such a good race car and my team just worked hard on it all weekend. We are definitely proud of this one.
Fetcho told PixelatedSPEED after the race that this is the biggest race he has won thus far in his career.
Just where does this win rank? “Oh… up at the top, for sure.”
The Nashville native skipped the Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway in an effort to consolidate costs. Fetcho hopes that picking and choosing his events will better help him focus on quality results. Today’s results show that early on, his plan is proving effective.
Another driver picking and choosing his events in 2022 is Casey Rodderick. In a deal that came together very late, Rodderick rocketed to a second place finish driving for TM Porter in a car adorned in the Hardee’s paint scheme from the movie “Days of Thunder”.
“Being back behind the seat of a pro late model I was very happy with our effort this weekend,” said Rodderick. “The car ran great and I felt like we had the winning car but we just ran out of time at the end. Track position kind of killed me on a couple of those restarts where I fell way back and the outside land just didn’t go like I needed it to. A little over halfway it really came to me. The way we had it set up I was a little too tight to start with to maintain good track position so I had to let them come to me and the car got better and better as I ran.”
The fresh pairing is off to a great start with the second place finish. Rodderick is looking forward to running several more races throughout the year with Porter while he picks and chooses the events his work schedule and budget will allow him to run in his super late model.
Michael Hinde continued his strong start to the 2022 season with another solid podium finish. Hinde battled for second through the bulk of the race with Christopher Tullis. Tullis would later fade as Colin Allman found his way into the fight in the late stages. Hinde prevailed, adding the third place finish to a list of great runs that include winning in a pro late model at SpeedFest in Cordele, Georgia and the World Series of Asphalt Racing in New Smyrna, Florida.
“It was a great day,” he said. “A lot better than last year for sure, battling for the lead you can’t complain at all.I put myself in position to take the lead a few times but the restarts didn’t go our way. I kind of got stuck on the outside and the bottom is definitely the preferred groove here. I was hoping to get the win, but I can’t complain with a podium finish.
